How to Refund a Customer

This is one of those times you'll be able to protect your reputation and ensure a transparent service. Forget about apps and issue a refund yourself in your Stripe account

Don't forget to cancel the order before refunding. Click here to see how to do that.

Refund your customers using Stripe's Dashboard. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Stripe's website and find the charge to be refunded in the Payments overview page.
  2. Click the ••• icon to the right of the charge and select Refund charge.
  3. Enter the amount to be refunded. The default is a full refund. For a partial refund, enter a different amount to be refunded.
  4. Select a reason for the refund. If you select Other, you must provide an explanatory note that is attached to the refund.
  5. Click Refund.

Note: The refund will always be sent to the original payment method. You can't customize where the refund will be received.

Can you cancel a refund?

Once initiated, a refund cannot be canceled. As an alternative, you can create a new charge for the customer in the amount of the refund to recoup the funds.
